Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A Chinese tourist couple experienced an unfortunate fate while on holiday in Indonesia. Intending to enjoy the beauty, a female tourist met her death.
The tourist with the initials HL fell into the Ijen Crater, Banyuwangi, East Java. The following is the chronology and facts of HL's death in the Ijen Crater, as quoted by detikcom.
1. Travel to Ijen Crater with a group
A tourist from China, HL (31), died after falling into the Ijen Crater, Mount Ijen, Banyuwangi, East Java on Saturday (20/4/2024). Initially, HL and her husband, ZY (32), visited the Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park (TWA), Saturday (20/4) early in the morning to watch the sunrise.
They went to the top of Ijen with a group guided by a tour guide named Guswanto. The victim and his entourage left Paltuding for Ijen Crater at around 02.10 WIB. Then, they climbed Mount Ijen and descended into the crater to watch the blue fire.
2. Falling due to being caught by a skirt
Arriving at the location, HL and her husband, ZY, then took a photo with the rising sun in the background. They took turns taking photos.
Then, the victim took a photo at a distance of about 2-3 meters from the crater rim. Then. he walked backwards to get closer to the wooden object behind him. However, when HL was walking backwards, the victim's leg was grazed by the long skirt she was wearing and fell into a ravine 75 meters deep.
“I immediately ran to Paltuding to ask for help,” said Guswanto, Saturday (20/4/2024).
3. Evacuation took 2 hours
It took about 2 hours to evacuate HL from the bottom of the Mount Ijen ravine. Head of Section V of the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Dwi Sugiharto explained that when the evacuation team arrived at the bottom of the ravine, the victim was already dead.
“The victim was successfully evacuated at around 11 am,” he said, Saturday (20/4).
The process of evacuating victims is carried out using stretchers.
4. The victim's body was taken to the Blambangan Regional Hospital
Licin Police Chief AKP Junaedi said the body of HL, a Chinese tourist who died when he fell into the Ijen Crater, was taken to the Blambangan Regional Hospital. The husband and tour guide accompanied him when the body was taken to the hospital.
“The victim's condition suffered from impact injuries and a broken leg bone,” said Junaedi.
5. Ministry of Tourism's response
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno said that his party was sorry for the incident that befell a tourist from China with the initials HL (31) and emphasized that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy would reprimand the management of the Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park.
“This is the security aspect that we must prioritize, we prioritize. We are very concerned and will give a firm appeal so that this incident does not happen again,” said Sandi at the media meeting 'The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno', Monday (22/4/2024) .
Sandi said that Ijen Crater is a favorite place for tourists to watch the beautiful view of the sunrise. Therefore, he asked all parties to prioritize travel safety.
