Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Actress Nicola Coughlan shares stories about her life experiences which have had ups and downs. Even though she is now famous, the 37 year old woman apparently experienced financial problems while attending acting school.
The star of the Bridgerton series stated that it was not easy to reach the peak of his career at this time. “So much of this notion of success happens overnight. I never want to pretend to be who I am,” Coughlan said in a 2020 interview with Stylist.
When Coughlan first moved to London from his hometown of Galway, Ireland to pursue acting, he struggled to keep up with rent while trying to get auditions and castings.
In an interview with Radio Times Last month, Coughlan explained that at that time his life was very sad because there was no money left to pay rent, bills and transportation costs.
“Moving to London was difficult because I was completely broke. I was in debt. I had to work every hour of the day to afford life there. That meant I didn't have time to audition,” he explained.
Plus, he competes for roles with people who come from wealthier backgrounds and don't have to worry as much about money.
“Money doesn't make you happy, but many people don't know how bad financial stress is. You can't think of anything else,” he concluded.
Eventually, she gave up and moved back to Ireland, where she worked in an optician's shop. Still, Coughlan kept looking for opportunities, and jumped at the chance to audition for a play at London's Old Vic Theatre, where she got the part. From there, she got an agent and landed her debut in “Derry Girls.”
“In reality, it took a year from doing reading practice, to staging the play, to me then signing a contract with my agent, to then getting Derry Girls. Before that, I had to go back to work in an optician's shop. Nothing happened quickly, ” he told Radio Times.
