Christmas Eve, Ukraine Successfully Thwarts Attack of 28 Russian Drones News – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down 28 of the 31 drones and 2 missiles launched by Russia towards Kyif on Christmas Eve (24/12/2023) local time.

Initially, most of the drones and missiles targeted the southern part of Ukraine. However, this attempt was thwarted by the Ukrainian Air Force defense.

“The Ukrainian Air Force and defense forces destroyed 28 Shahed attack drones in the Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Donetsk, Kirovohrad and Khmelnytskyi regions,” the Ukrainian Air Force said via the Telegram messaging application, quoted by Reuters, Monday (25/12/2023).

According to the military, the drone was launched from Russian-occupied Crimea. The military said debris from the fallen drone damaged technical facilities at Odesa port as well as “inoperable administrative buildings and warehouses”.

Meanwhile, in the Kherson region, a fire also broke out in a warehouse. However, the military said no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The military also repeated previously released information that two Russian military planes crashed near the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol on the Sea of ‚Äč‚ÄčAzov in southern Ukraine and near the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

On Sunday, Russian and Ukrainian military officials reported downing enemy planes in different areas along a 1,000-km (621-mile) front in their 22-month-old war.

Reuters itself is known to be unable to independently verify the Ukrainian air force report. The reason is, there has been no direct comment from the Russian side.
