Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Google will destroy millions of data records they collect from users. This data deletion is part of an agreement to settle a lawsuit against Google in court.
A group of people sued Google in a California court. They accused Google of secretly tracking internet users who thought they were surfing the internet privately.

Users track cookies, applications and Google's analytics features tracking users who turn on Incognito mode in Google Chrome and other browsers. In Incognito mode, users should be safe from tracking by Google or other application providers.
Google's behavior, according to the plaintiffs, allows the company to store a wealth of information without supervision. The information Google collects includes friend lists, favorite foods, hobbies, shopping habits as well as search history that is “very intimate and potentially embarrassing.”
In a settlement agreement between the plaintiffs and Google, Google agreed to disclose the data they collect when users use private mode while surfing the internet. Incognito will also be allowed to block cookies provided by third parties.
“The result is that Google will collect less data from private browsing sessions and Google will generate less revenue from the data,” plaintiffs' attorneys said.
The contents of the settlement agreement between Google and the plaintiff still have to await approval from the judge. According to plaintiffs' lawyers, the settlement agreement is worth more than US$ 5 billion.
Google is free from the obligation to pay fines in the agreement. However, users can later sue Google individually to demand compensation.
