Google's Future is Threatened, It Could Lose Because of This

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Google has a new threat in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The US retail chain Walmart is known to have created its own generative AI with extraordinary capabilities.

That AI will make Walmart a one-stop shop for searching for anything.

CEO Doug McMillon continues to praise his company's AI capabilities. One of them is the search feature which he said was very encouraging.

“The most exciting thing is the progress in search and the way generative AI is helping us improve the solution-oriented search experience for customers and members. And it's happening very quickly,” said McMillon, quoted by CNBC International, Monday (11/3/2024).

Walmart and technology are things that cannot be separated. Even analyst and vice president of Forrester, Sucharita Kodali, said this step made Walmart an innovator in its field.

“They are better at being leaders than being followers. They operate from a position of strength,” he said.

Not only Walmart, Instacart is also equipping its company operations with AI. Namely, through Ask Instacart, consumers can search for things based on themes, not per item.

Meanwhile, Rufus, who is Amazon's shopping assistant, helps users say whatever they need. They no longer need to search for the items they want directly.

Walmart's progress also coincided with Google's failure in one of its AI products. Gemini wasn't ready to be thrown into the market and ended up making a mistake.

Even Google co-founder Sergey Brin said his company had messed up the launch of Gemini. When Google encountered various problems regarding AI, many retail companies took advantage of AI as a solution.

If things don't improve immediately, it is not impossible that Google's dominance will collapse due to intense competition.
