Horrified! Neo-Nazism is on the Rise in Australia News – 4 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – New South Wales state Premier Chris Minns condemned the neo-Nazi rally in the state capital Sydney as “appalling”. This statement comes a day after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said neo-Nazism was on the rise in the country.

Police on Sunday (28/1/2024), said about 30 men gathered in a park in the north of the city and were given orders to prevent them from entering other areas of Sydney, before they dispersed, without any arrests.

“Police are confronting these obnoxious and horrific racists head-on on the streets of New South Wales,” Chris Minns told reporters in Sydney, citing Reuters and CNA.

He clearly described the event as a “neo-Nazi demonstration.” This incident occurred a day after Albanians condemned the domestic activities of neo-Nazis following the arrest of six members of a black-clad group in Sydney last Friday, the country's national day. These arrests occurred in the midst of demonstrations in support of Indigenous communities.

Prime Minister Albanese said Australia had seen a rise in neo-Nazism, which was condemned “by all good people”.

This month, new laws banning Nazi salutes and displaying or selling symbols associated with terror groups came into effect in Australia in response to more incidents of antisemitism following the Israel-Gaza war.

At the time, the centre-left Labor government said the law sent a clear message that there was no place in Australia for those who glorify the Holocaust or terrorist acts.
