Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Religion has monitored the moon or new moon at 134 points in Indonesia on Sunday (10/3/2024). As a result, there are 11 points in Indonesia where the crescent moon is not visible, including Bandung and Makassar.
There are a number of factors that make the crescent moon invisible, one of which is the hazy sky.
In conclusion, the new moon cannot be observed so that 1 Ramadan 1445 H is predicted to fall on Tuesday 12 March 2024.
Please note, the government uses methods rukyatul hilal or observing the moon determines the start of a new month. This method considers the results of calculating the position of the new moon which is confirmed again through observations of the new moon using the MABIMS (Minister of Religion of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore) criteria.
Member of the Ministry of Religion's Hisab Rukyat Team, Cecep Nurwendaya, at the Ministry of Religion office, said that based on the results of the MABIMS agreement, the criteria for hilal visibility had changed to a hilal height of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees. Based on these criteria, the new moon in Indonesia cannot be observed this afternoon.
Currently, the Ministry of Religion is still holding a closed session to determine the start of Ramadan 2024. The determination of the start of the fasting month will be announced at a press conference this evening.
