Japan's richest person supports Palestine, donates this much

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Israel's invasion of Palestinian land gave many people great sympathy for the Palestinians who were victims. Celebrities donated a lot of money and various other types of aid to ease the suffering of Palestinians. One of them is Tadashi Yanai.

Tadashi Yanai is Japan's richest person. Forbes (2024) noted that he has assets of US$ 36.6 billion or Rp. 594 trillion. The name Yanai may be unfamiliar, but perhaps the majority of people know about Uniqlo. Uniqlo, which is one of the largest clothing stores in the world, is Tadashi Yanai's fortune-making machine. He started Uniqlo in 1984 and created success from accident.

When building a new branch of his clothing store in Hong Kong, the staff wrote the name of the store incorrectly. It should Uniclo actually so Uniqlo. However, unexpectedly a typo in the name of the shop allowed him to have a lot of money and actively donate. Including Palestine.

In September 2016, Yanai through Uniqlo donated 42 thousand winter clothes to children and families of Palestinian refugee families in Lebanon. This donation occurred thanks to Uniqlo's collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine (UNRWA).

On the UNRWA website, Uniqlo as a global clothing company is trying to help refugees meet their basic needs. One of them is providing warm clothes needed when winter arrives to refugees who have low economic conditions.

“Collaboration with Uniqlo has an important impact on improving the quality of life of Palestinian refugees amidst various hardships,” wrote the official UN agency.

Apart from the Palestinian people, Yanai is also known to actively make donations to many areas. In general, the focus of Yanai and Uniqlo's philanthropy is on refugees. Through the official website, Uniqlo seeks to support refugees, either direct assistance or assistance that can enable them to live independently.

As a result, big money flows to refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and so on. In Afghanistan, for example, Yanai donated US$800 thousand in the form of blankets, tents and clothing. Then, in Ukraine, Yanai gave US$10 million and hundreds of thousands of clothes to war victims.

Of course, all of this is provided under the Uniqlo banner. Not only that, Yanai is also active in providing training to refugees. The goal is that they not only hope for help, but can also earn money and their own needs. In the end, all of this made Yanai not only known as an accomplished entrepreneur, but also a renowned philanthropist.
