Learn from Badrun, Get 'Treasures' from Heaven & Become Rich

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Luck is unpredictable. That's what happened to a factory worker from Gresik named Badrun.

While repairing roof tiles, Badrun did not expect to find a 'treasure' that changed the course of his life. This story takes place in June 1975.

The beginning of the story appeared when Badrun was focused on repairing the leaking roof tiles in his house. However, in the middle of repairs, he found an unusual brochure just lying on the roof tiles.

“After he read it, it turned out that the contents of the brochure stated that the finder could exchange it for cash,” he wrote Surabaya Post (June 4, 1975).

Please note, this brochure comes from a company in Surabaya. In celebration of their birthday, they flew lots of balloons containing special brochures.

Of course the balloons can go anywhere depending on the wind direction. If the balloon bursts and the flyer is found, then someone can exchange it for cash.

Indeed, this is according to the stated nominal value. And, the biggest prize amount went to the roof tiles of Badrun's house, namely IDR 100,000.

Please note, at that time, Rp. 100,000 in the 1970s was a very large value. With the price of petrol at that time only IDR 57, Badrun could buy thousands of liters of petrol.

Even at that time, the price of gold was only IDR 2 thousand per gram. So, a nominal value of IDR 100,000 can buy 50 grams of gold.

If you use the current gold price standard (1 gram: Rp. 1 million), then Rp. 100,000 is equivalent to Rp. 50,000,000 today. Obviously this was very large for its time, even exceeding Badrun's own monthly salary as a laborer. So, Badrun really got a 'windfall'.

Badrun finally exchanged the brochure for cash. Since then, daily Surabaya Post said Badrun's life changed instantly to become better and more prosperous than usual.

Apart from Badrun, there were dozens of other people who exchanged the brochures. Their professions range from farmers, school children, private employees, to soldiers.

They live in Mojokerto, Gresik and Lamongan. It's just that they get a fairly low nominal amount, around Rp. 50 to Rp. 550. Unlike Badrun who gets it jackpot IDR 100,000.
