Merah Putih 2 Ready to Launch, Check the Sophistication of Telkom's New Satellite

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. ready to launch the Merah Putih 2 satellite. Telkom's second high-throughput satellite (HTS) uses the latest, sophisticated technology.

Telkomsat, a subsidiary of TelkomGroup, plans to launch the Merah Putih 2 Satellite between 20 February 2024 and 21 February 2024 Indonesian time.

Telkomsat Main Director Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf provided an overview of the technological advantages behind Merah Putih 2.

The Merah Putih 2 Satellite is powered by the advanced Spacebus 4000B2 platform with a service life of 15 years. The satellite was made by Thales Alenia Space. Meanwhile, the launch will be carried out by SpaceX, Elon Musk's space technology company.

Thales and SpaceX are experienced companies that have been involved with Telkom satellite projects before.

Luman emphasized that the partner selection and procurement process for the Merah Putih 2 satellite complied with the principles of compliance and good corporate governance.

Partner selection also takes into account low costs per Gbps, resulting in satellites with larger capacities and competitive selling prices.

The Merah Putih 2 Satellite has a capacity of 32 Gbps with an active transponder that serves C-band and Ku-band frequencies. Telkom now operates the Merah Putih satellite which is in orbit 108 East Longitude and was launched in 2018.

Telkom believes that with equal access to information, it is hoped that it can accelerate the digitalization of society in various aspects,” said the President Director of Telkom Ririek Adriansyah.
