Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Yesterday's 2024 Vice Presidential Debate, Friday (22/12/2023) was in the public spotlight. The three vice presidential candidates who competed, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, Gibran Rakabuming, and Mahfud MD left a strong impression.
This was reflected in netizens' conversations via social media platform X, formerly Twitter, throughout the debate which was broadcast nationally.
Quoting the results of Drone Emprit's research, Saturday (23/12/2023), Gibran's performance succeeded in stealing the stage in the virtual room. Then followed by Mahfud and Cak Imin.
It was recorded that there were more than 60,000 conversations on Twitter and online news that mentioned Gibran. Cak Imin and Mahfud, respectively 37,928 and 18,648.
Apart from being the most talked about figure last night, Gibran was also listed as the vice presidential candidate who managed to achieve the highest positive sentiment. On platform X, Gibran received 70.45% positive sentiment and 22.69% negative sentiment.
Netizens like Gibran because they are considered to provide realistic, technical and concrete answers to debates. Apart from that, the son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is also considered to have speaking skills that are beyond expectations. Gibran's positive sentiment is also supported by the narrative “Let him cook” circulating on social media.
Gibran's impression that created negative sentiment in the virtual space was because he was considered to be carrying too much of the IKN narrative. As is known, IKN is a mega project initiated by Jokowi.
Apart from that, Gibran is considered not to have answered well regarding the ratio of taxes and sanitation funds.
Turning to Cawapres number 3, Mahfud received positive sentiment of 69.48% and negative sentiment of 15.69%. Netizens liked Mahfud's appearance, who looked firm and succeeded in repelling Cak Imin. He also stole the hearts of netizens because he presented a narrative of 7% economic growth and comprehensive explanations regarding the law.
The negative sentiment for the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs was because he was unable to answer questions about carbon capture storage, his speaking tempo was too slow, and his answers were too normative.
In contrast to the other two vice presidential candidates, Cak Imin received much higher negative sentiment. As many as 40.78% of conversations on Twitter were negative sentiments and 47.85% were positive sentiments.
Netizens apparently like the slepet diction that Cak Imin repeatedly uses. The Anies Baswedan couple's discourse to build 40 cities at the level of Jakarta also received a positive response.
However, netizens don't like Cak Imin, who is considered to talk too much and is inconsistent. As is known, Gibran attacked Cak Imin because he initially supported the IKN project, but then strongly criticized the project during yesterday's debate.
Apart from that, Cak Imin was also considered not to have mastered the issue because he did not understand the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) raised by Gibran. Netizens also highlighted Cak Imin's gesture which appeared to be reading too much text.
