Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp has a feature that allows users to delete sent chats. That way the person you are talking to cannot read the message sent.
However, there are times when we accidentally delete chats. Even though the message is important or has not been read by the recipient of the message.
No need to panic, because there is an easy way to restore deleted chats. Here's how:
The most important thing to restore deleted chats is to make sure you have done a backup. This can be done directly within the application. Check out the steps below:
- Open WhatsApp > More options > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup
- Select the Google Account you want to back up chats to. – You can also create a local backup on the device
- Click “Backup”
- Once the backup is saved, you can delete WhatsApp from the device and install it on the new Android device.
Backup WhatsApp chats on Google Drive
Chat history backup can also be done via Google Drive. The feature can be turned on automatically or based on time, namely daily, weekly and monthly.
Here's how to restore chat history:
- Make sure the device is linked to the Google account where your backup is stored
- Install and open WhatsApp, then verify your phone number
- Tap “Restore” when prompted to restore chats and media from Google Drive
- Once the recovery process is complete, click “Continue” and your chats will be displayed after the initialization process is complete
- WhatsApp will proceed with restoring media files once chats are restored.
Restore WhatsApp chats from iCloud
- Uninstall the WhatsApp application
- Reinstall the WhatsApp application and log in as usual
- When the “Restore” or “Restore chat” command appears, click “Next”
- WhatsApp will take the backup file in your iCloud
- Once finished, all chats will return to normal.
Backup WhatsApp chats on cellphone
For local backup, you must send files via computer, file explorer, or SD card. Here's how:
- Download or open a file manager application on your cellphone
- Next, open local storage or SD card > WhatsApp > Database. If the data is not saved on the SD card, you may be able to find it in “internal storage” or “main storage”
- Copy the latest backup file to the “Database” folder in your device's local storage
- Install and open WhatsApp, then verify your phone number
- Tap “Restore” when prompted to restore chats and media from a local backup.
Restore Chats with an Old Local Backup
- Download or open a file manager application on your cellphone
- Go to local storage or SD card > WhatsApp > Database. – If data is not saved on SD card, you may be able to find it in “internal storage” or “main storage”
- Rename the backup file you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It is possible that older backups use older protocols, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Note, do not change the crypt extension number
- Delete and reinstall the WhatsApp application
- Tap “Restore” when entering the WhatsApp application.
