Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Sales of hybrid cars in Indonesia are higher than sales of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) cars. Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), sales of locally assembled hybrid cars during January-April 2024 were 20,291 units, almost double compared to locally assembled BEVs which sold 11,051 units.
Gaikindo also opened its voice regarding how hybrid cars sell better than BEVs in Indonesia, one of which is because of the convenience and prices that are more accessible to the public.
“Hybrids are more affordable, save fuel, don't need a charging station,” said Gaikindo Chairman I Jongkie Sugiarto to CNBC Indonesia, Monday (13/4/2024).
These various conveniences make Hybrid cars more of an option. People's previous habits of filling up with petrol quickly can also be felt by this hybrid car. Apart from charging electricity, hybrid cars can also use gasoline to drive.
“Hybrid cars do not need a charging station, so they can be marketed more widely,” said Jongkie.
On the other hand, for manufacturers the costs to produce it are also lower than BEVs. The reason is, the high production costs are due to the battery price factor.
“The price of hybrid cars is more affordable because production costs are cheaper than electric cars,” said Jongkie.
