Sandi Uno Confides that RI Needs a Lot of Tourism Investment, Reaching IDR 325 T

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno expressed the urgency of investment for Indonesian tourism. This was expressed by Sandi, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno's nickname, at the 2024 International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) at SwissĂ´tel Jakarta PIK Avenue, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Wednesday (5/6/2024).

“Our challenge is the lack of investment in this sector. We need more investment,” he said.

According to him, recorded investment in the country's tourism sector last year reached more than US$ 3 billion. However, the majority, or around 80%, is realized in hotels, restaurants and cafes.

Sandi said Indonesia needed more investment related to developing sustainable tourism products and inclusive community-based tourism.

“We actually need an investment of more than $15 billion (Rp. 244 trillion) to $20 billion (Rp. 325 trillion),” said Sandi.

Therefore, the United Development Party politician said ITIF 2024 was important. He did not forget to thank UNDP and KADIN for their support.

Furthermore, Sandi is confident that this year's tourism investment target can be achieved.

“We are confident that we can create three times more investment in this sector. And in the first quarter of this year, we have achieved our target, about a third of the target which reached almost US$ 1 billion,” said Sandi.

“So the hope is, apart from hotels, restaurants and cafes, we need to invest more in supporting infrastructure,” he continued.
