Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ahead of Eid next week, there are several outer space phenomena that will occur, namely a total solar eclipse and also a solar explosion that will occur simultaneously.
“When watching GMT [gerhana matahari total] April 8 2024, according to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), explosions will be visible on the Sun, during a total solar eclipse, the view of the Sun from Earth will be blocked by the moon and will leave the edge. “It is on this edge that Earth can see the edge of the Sun's plasma appearing to explode,” said the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) quoted from its official website, Tuesday (2/4/2024).
BMKG explained that the solar explosion occurred due to internal activity at the center of the Solar System. Activity levels ebb and flow over the 11-year cycle and peak this year.
So far, no one knows the cause of this phenomenon. However, the BMKG wrote that it is possible because it involves magnetic forces or nuclear reactions in the Sun.
The impact of the explosion depends on its size. On Earth itself, what occurs is an Earth magnetic storm or geomagnetic storm.
“This happened because of an explosion on the surface of the Sun [korona] It ejects a large plasma containing charged particles [angin Matahari] along with a high-speed magnetic field that spreads to the Earth's magnetosphere,” explained BMKG.
“The coronal mass ejection event is often referred to as a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When a CME hits the magnetic field around the Earth [magnetosfer]”The ejection of charged particles is deflected by the Earth's magnetosphere towards the north pole and south pole lines,” he added.
In its conclusion, BMKG explained that the impact of solar explosions related to Earth's magnetic storms was relatively safe for Indonesia. This country is located at low latitudes, where the Earth's shield is strongest.
“The impact of solar explosions in the form of Earth's magnetic storms is relatively safe for areas of Indonesia at low latitudes, because the Earth's shield from the influence of solar wind particle radiation (Earth's magnetosphere), the strongest point is at low latitudes,” said BMKG.
Meanwhile, Indonesia cannot witness the Total Solar Eclipse directly. The April 8 phenomenon will be seen in Mexico, the United States (US) and Canada.
The GMT process will start at 22:42 WIB. This phenomenon will end on April 9 2024 the next day at 03:52 WIB.
