Used goods bring in money, this figure becomes a billionaire – profits IDR 3 billion

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Covid-19 pandemic has stopped activities. Everyone is forced to stay at home, so boredom sometimes appears. When boredom arrives, many people make themselves busy. One of them is doing business like what Sophie Riegel, a Duke University student, did in 2020.

At first, Riegel had no intention of doing business. In 2020 he just wants to study until he graduates. However, the pandemic came and made lectures change to online. At this point, boredom arrived and made him think about starting a business.

Interestingly, the business started without capital. He uses clothes and items that are no longer used or used at home to sell online. In this way, Riegel admitted to CNBC Make It earned an income of US$ 200 or Rp. 3 million.

From here, he started to get addicted to the used goods business. As a result, he looked for used items around Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Of course, the used goods you are looking for are still of good quality. After that, it is only sold from US$ 1 to US$ 10 at e-commerce.

From these sales, the woman born in 2001 admitted that she made a profit of US$ 50 or Rp. 700 thousand per day. A month he can profit US$ 10,300 or Rp. 163 million.

Since then, he has continued to do business until he graduated this year. Based on reviewed documents CNBC Make It, unexpectedly sales of used goods reached US$ 123,800 or Rp. 1.9 billion over 4 years. Even if calculated net, the profits generated are more than the nominal amount.

Riegel has pocketed a total net profit of more than US$192,000 or Rp. 3 billion since starting his business, after taking into account platform fees and cost of goods,” wrote CNBC Make Itquoted Thursday (28/3/2024).

Until now, he is still running this business apart from his main job as a writer and psychologist. From this business, he succeeded in making US$ 400-500 or Rp. 6-7 million every day. In fact, he admitted that the used goods business contributed 70% of his monthly income, more than his salary as a psychologist.

It's just that, amidst his increasing busyness, he no longer does business alone. He admitted that he had hired employees to support the company's operations. Apart from that, he also has no intention and no strong reason to stop his business. Working as a psychologist can actually strengthen your business in terms of networking.

“I'll do it as long as I can. Both careers make me happy and allow me to be independent, and I don't have to choose between one thing or the other,” Riegel said.
